HoSiElektron - Verarbeitung hochbandbreitiger Signale mit schmalbandiger Elektronik in integierten Schaltkreisen

New applications and services such as the IoT, autonomous driving, streaming and gaming are leading to exponential growth in data rates in global communication networks. To keep pace with this growth, additional parallel connections can be established using multi-mode or multicore fibres, the bandwidth of the transmission channel can be expanded using new amplifiers in the networks, or the spectral efficiency of transmission in existing networks can be increased. However, parallelising or increasing the bandwidth of the channel is associated with massive costs and a drastic increase in energy consumption, while a further increase in spectral efficiency has so far failed due to the resolution of the electronic signal processing systems and, in particular, the resolution of the digital-to-analogue converter (DAC) in the transmitter and the analogue-to-digital converter (ADC) in the receiver. The aim of this project will be do develop extremely wideband and energy efficient ADCs and DACs.
